The following individuals have successfully filed to seek the Republican nomination for these offices at this year’s June 20th primary:

Party Canvass of Botetourt County of the Republican Party of Virginia

            As Chairman of the BOTETOURT COUNTY Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, CHARLES W. SIMMONS, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass (Firehouse Primary) to be held on SATURDAY AUGUST 13, 2022 at LORD BOTETOURT HIGH SCHOOL (1435 Roanoke Rd., Daleville, VA 24083) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (local times) for the sole purpose of:

  • Nominating a Republican candidate for the office of TREASURER of Botetourt County to be voted for in the SPECIAL ELECTION on NOVEMBER 8, 2022.

Qualifications for Participation

            All legal and qualified voters of BOTETOURT COUNTY under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate in the party canvass.

Filing Requirements

Candidates for Treasurer at said canvass must file a written statement of their intent to seek the Republican nomination for Botetourt County Treasurer.  Said written statement of intent to seek nomination must include the candidate’s name, address and phone number.  The deadline for filing is Friday, July 29, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.  Written statements of intent that have not already been received by the Committee Chairman must be filed by mailing them to P.O. Box 702 Daleville, VA 24083 (post marks do not control, written statement of intent must be received by 5:00 p.m. on 7/29/22).

If not more than the number of persons to be nominated (1) shall properly file for the respective office, such properly filed person shall be declared nominated and no Party Canvass will be held for such purpose.  If cancelled, a notice of such cancellation will be published on the Committee’s Facebook page and website, BotetourtGOP.com.

Registration Fee

There will be NO registration fee to participate as a voter or a candidate for nomination in the Party Canvass.

Attention Botetourt County Republicans

> The Botetourt County Republican Committee will hold its first meeting of the new term on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 (location to be announced in the formal Call).  If you wish to be a member of the committee at the June meeting, you will need to submit your application form and bi-annual dues of $50 by mail OR in-person delivery by Friday, May 20th, 2022.  Mailed applications and dues must be addressed to: BCRC P.O. 702 Daleville, VA 24083.  In-person delivery can be made at the John Alderson Insurance Agency, located at 1215 Roanoke Rd. Daleville, VA Suite 101 during normal business hours, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.  The deadline for in-person delivery is Friday, May 20, 2022 at 5 p.m.  Mailed applications must be postmarked by May 20, 2022. Membership application forms can be found at Botetourtgop.com under the “About” tab. Checks should be made out to “Botetourt GOP”. Thanks to everyone who has already submitted their form and dues.

As Chairman of the Botetourt County Republican Committee (BCRC), and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Charles Simmons, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass to be held at Lord Botetourt High School, located at 1435 Roanoke Rd., Daleville, VA 24083, from 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. local time on March 19, 2022, for the following purposes:

  1. Elect a Chairman for the Botetourt County Republican Committee
  • To elect members to the BCRC subject to the receipt of biannual dues at or before the first called meeting in the amount of $50.

Qualifications for Participation

All legal and qualified voters of Botetourt County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin, or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing, as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions, or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.

Filing Requirements

Chairman:

Candidates for election to the position of Chairman of the Botetourt County Republican Committee shall file a written statement of intent either by mail or by hand delivery to John Alderson c/o Alderson Insurance Agency whose mailing address is 1215 Roanoke Rd Suite 101, Daleville, VA 24083.  The statement of intent must be received not later than 5:00 p.m. on March 1, 2022 and said statement must include the name, address and phone number of the candidate.  Postmarks will not govern. There will be no nominations from the floor for the office of Chairman.

Committee Members:

All persons eligible to participate in the Party Canvass will be eligible to be elected members of the Botetourt County Republican Committee upon payment of bi-annual committee dues in the amount of $50 at or before the first called meeting.

Cancellation of Party Canvass

  1. Only one qualified person timely and properly files a written statement of intent to run for chairman of the Botetourt County Republican Committee.

If all the above conditions are met then:

a)      the Party Canvass will be cancelled, and

b)      the following will be deemed elected to their respective offices as of March 19, 2022:

the sole candidate who timely and properly filed for election as Chairman.

 A notice that the Party Canvass has been cancelled will be posted at www.botetourtgop.com, Committee’s Facebook page and will be emailed to all current members with email addresses on file.

This call shall be posted on the websites of the Republican Party of Virginia (Virginia.gop) the Sixth District Republican Committee (Sixthdistrictgop.org) and of the Botetourt County Republican Committee (Botetourtgop.com).
